What is neuroaffirming practice?

7 signs it is being done well

Neuroaffirming practice recognises neurological differences as part of human diversity while still acknowledging genuine disability, distress and support needs. The goal isn't to make an Autistic person appear less Autistic, or someone with ADHD appear more neurotypical. It's to understand how that person thinks, communicates, regulates, learns and functions, and to provide support that improves their wellbeing, participation, autonomy and quality of life.

What this looks like in practice:

How to tell if a therapist is genuinely neuroaffirming: ask how they adapt therapy for Autistic or ADHD clients, how they decide which behaviours need intervention, whether they require eye contact, how they work with stimming, and how they involve the client in setting treatment goals. The label matters less than what actually happens in the room.

Redefini Therapies is a neuroaffirming clinic. All staff have undertaken additional training in neuroaffirming practice, and the team includes neurodivergent clinicians who bring both professional expertise and lived understanding to their work.

Take the Next Step

If your child is struggling with attention, organisation, learning, or regulation, and you are unsure why, you do not need to determine the diagnosis yourself. That is what assessment is for. Many families find that simply having a clearer picture of their child's profile changes everything: it shifts the conversation from "why won't they just try harder?" to "now we know what actually helps."

"You bring the knowledge of your child. We bring the clinical framework. Together, we build a clearer picture."
