Telehealth or an in-person appointment: Finding a workable option Guide
Telehealth or an in-person appointment: finding a workable option
When you’re booking a psychology or counselling appointment, one of the first decisions is whether to attend in person or by telehealth. There’s no single right answer. The best format is the one that lets you take part safely, comfortably and meaningfully, and that will look different for every person and family.
Things like travel time, sensory needs, privacy at home, access to technology and the purpose of the appointment all affect which option will work best for you.
What’s available at Redefini Therapies?
Redefini offers psychology and counselling in person at our Mitchelton clinic in Brisbane, and through telehealth across Australia, subject to suitability and practitioner availability.
Our assessment service can also include telehealth where appropriate. However, that doesn’t mean every part of an assessment can be completed online. Therapy sessions, intake interviews and standardised assessment tasks each have different requirements, and your practitioner will consider whether the planned work can be delivered properly in the format available. Some people may need in-person appointments, or a combination of both. If you’re travelling from outside Brisbane, check with our team before booking travel or assuming the whole process will be online.
Telehealth isn’t automatically easier
Telehealth can cut down on travel and make appointments easier to fit around work, school and family life. But it doesn’t suit everyone. Some people find video calls tiring or distracting. Others don’t have a private space at home, reliable internet, or someone to help with the technology.
These are practical access needs, not personal failures, and they’re worth raising with our team so we can find an arrangement that works.
Home, school and mobile visits
A mobile appointment, where the practitioner travels to your home, school or another community setting, is different from telehealth. If this is something you need, contact Redefini before booking so we can discuss whether it can be accommodated. Availability, suitability, consent, travel arrangements and any extra costs are confirmed on an individual basis.
