Autism Level Review
What is an Autism Level Review?
An Autism Level Review is a clinical review of a person’s current autism support needs. It is designed to help clarify how autism is impacting everyday functioning and whether the person’s current documented autism support level continues to reflect their real-life needs.
Autism levels are described in the DSM-5-TR as Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3. These levels are not a measure of a person’s worth, intelligence, personality, or potential. They are intended to describe the level of support a person may require across areas such as communication, social interaction, flexibility, routines, sensory processing, emotional regulation, daily living, learning, work, community access, and participation.
At Redefini Therapies, our Autism Level Reviews focus on functional evidence. This means we look at how autism presents in real life, what supports are currently required, what barriers the person experiences, and how their needs may have changed over time.
It is important to know that the level a person is assigned when they are first diagnosed can shift as they develop and refine their social skills and as anxiety, depression and other common issues among people with autism change or grow more severe.
What does the review involve?
Preparation of a written report outlining current presentation, support needs, functional impact, and clinical opinion regarding autism support level
Following the interview and assessment process, our clinicians complete the report writing and clinical formulation. The report brings together the person’s diagnostic history, current presentation, assessment information, and collateral evidence to provide a clear summary of current support needs.
Face-to-face or Zoom appointments
The good news is that Autism Level Reviews can be completed either face-to-face at Redefini Therapies or by Zoom. This means we can support clients across Australia, including families and individuals who are not located near our Brisbane clinic.
Telehealth appointments can be particularly helpful for people who find travel difficult, experience sensory overwhelm in unfamiliar environments, live regionally or remotely, or prefer to participate from the comfort of their own home.
Why might someone need an Autism Level Review?
An Autism Level Review may be helpful when a person already has an autism diagnosis, but their existing paperwork does not clearly explain their current support level or functional support needs.
This may be particularly relevant when preparing for an NDIS review, updating support evidence, planning therapy and intervention, clarifying school or workplace support needs, or understanding whether the person’s current documentation accurately reflects their day-to-day functioning.
At Redefini Therapies, we aim to provide clear, respectful, neuro-affirming, and clinically informed reports that help describe the person’s needs in a practical and meaningful way.
fee
The fee is Private $2349. NDIS is at the price guide hourly rate and is approximately 10 hours, 2 hours of interview, two hours of assessment and 6 hours of report writing. Disclaimer that this is only approximate.
